Rakht Charitra : Movie Review

Rakht Charitra is full of Blood relishing characters
Director : Ram Gopal Varma
Cast : Viveik Oberoi, Shatrughan Sinha, Abhimanyu Singh, Radhika Apte, Zarina Wahab & Sushant Singh.

Viveik Oberoi

"Revenge is the purest form of Emotion" says the tag line of Ram Gopal Varma's latest release RAKHT CHARITRA and so be it. RGV doesn't like playing moderate. One day he disappoints you with stuff like Aag or Darling, and then he comes up with a RC, relatively raw in its content as well as treatment. RGV delivered seven flops out of his last nine releases as a director. Sarkar Raj & Phoonk  though exceptions, were still no big money makers. The casualties increase for Ramu as a producer. But after a lot of speculations and public protests before the release of this flick, Ramu returns to solid ground.

Shatrughan Sinha
The film revolves around a young student Pratap Ravi played by Viveik Oberoi, who is pushed to a never ending path of Blood and Revenge after the sudden killings of his father and brother on account of Political jealousies. Pratap swearing revenge, dismantles his enemies one at a time. The film portrays his journey from being a low caste student to a gangster and his rise from a gangster to a politician. The first chapter of this two part story concludes when Pratap is being acquired by the actor turned politician Shivaji Rao played by Shatrughan Sinha who has his personal reasons to seek Pratap's services to maintain law and order in his territory.

Abhimanyu Singh
Rakht Charitra is full of Blood relishing characters. The visuals are disturbing and very raw, however are justified by the genre and the cutthroat characters of the story. The monstrous Bukka Reddy played by Abhimanyu Singh is the perfect portrayal of bowel less and fugal looking psyche who surprises you with his every move.

With the running length of 122 minutes the movie is fast paced and brings freshness in its genre. The Paise wala... number is one of the only avoidable things in the movie. Of the cast kudos to Viveik Oberoi & Abhimanyu Singh who stand out as best of actors in the first chapter. The extension will feature Tamil Star Surya Sivakumar as Suryanarayan Reddy facing Pratap and ultimately killing him.

I would go with three out of five for the first part. Well done Ramu... hope the consistency follows with RC-II.
